'Les Grands Relais gastronomiques du Salon d'Automne 1931'
A map from the dawn of the age of the destination restaurant and the cult of the celebrity chef. This gastronomic map was published at a time when France’s renowned culinary culture was beginning to be formally recognized and appreciated. Michelin had started awarding its famous stars in 1926, initially granting a single star to select restaurants known for their high-quality cuisine. The current three-star rating system was introduced in 1931—the same year this map was published. "Les Grands Relais gastronomiques du Salon d'Automne 1931" illustrates regional gastronomic routes and relais (stopping points) from Paris, featuring notable dining establishments across France and neighbouring countries. These establishments were highlighted during the prestigious 1931 Salon d'Automne, an annual art exhibition in Paris, which that year included a category dedicated to "arts gastronomiques" (gastronomic arts).
