Published in 1973, this exuberant pictorial map captures Northern California’s wine industry already confident that the region possessed qualities the wider world had yet to recognise. Its introductory text quotes wine authority Leon D. Adams describing the region’s wine-growing climates as “the secret envy of the winegrowers of Europe,” and noting the industry’s transformation during the 1960s. The boast proved remarkably prescient: three years later the Judgment of Paris put Napa on the international wine map, when California wines defeated celebrated French labels in both categories. Signed M. Daijogo—probably Bay Area illustrator Masami “Sam” Daijogo—the map charts routes through Napa, Sonoma and the wider northern Californian wine districts, enlivened with grapes, harvesters, barrels and tasting scenes. Its flanking directories identify about 130 winemakers and give visitor information. More than an attractive period map, it is contemporary evidence that California’s wine industry already knew it had something exceptional—just before the rest of the world found out.

Packing
Items smaller than A4 size are usually packed in a stiffened, board-backed envelope. Larger items are rolled and packed in postal tubes. Large items which are too stiff to be rolled in wide-diameter tubes are mailed in all-board envelopes. In the unlikely event of damage in transit, please send the affected item or items back to us and we will provide a replacement or refund.

Returns
We accept returns for any reason if sent back to us within 14 days of receipt of your order. If any of your items are not as described, we will provide a full refund including reasonable return postage costs upon safe return to us. If you have changed your mind, you are responsible for the cost of returning the item to us. We describe the size, age and condition of all our products as fully and accurately as possible.
