2-SW-C — Hau Hoi Wan (Deep Bay) [Lau Fau Shan]
A finely surveyed 1:5,000 plan of Deep Bay’s eastern shore at a pivotal date. Lau Fau Shan, Sha Kiu Tsuen and the villages around Mong Tseng are set among tracks, individual buildings, contours, tidal shoreline and the extensive rectilinear fishpond landscape around Tin Shui Wai. In 1987 that low-lying aquaculture and wetland terrain still dominates the sheet; large-scale formation of Tin Shui Wai New Town and its later housing, roads and railway had yet to remake much of the southern landscape. The map predates the 1995 designation of Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay as a Ramsar wetland of international importance, giving the fishponds and coast added environmental-historical resonance. Sheet 2-SW-C belongs to the monochrome HP5C series, compiled from the Government’s 1:1,000 basic mapping and updated from aerial photographs and field survey records for planners, architects, engineers and developers. This copy bears manual annotations in red. Intended for practical use and limited circulation, this government survey is scarce on the market. We could find no dealer or auction record of another example of this April 1987 edition.
