Hong Kong pictorial city map, circa 1979 old vintage plan chart
SKU: P-6-107236
'Hong Kong // Macao // The City of Hong Kong'
The map is undated, but the reverse side includes an inset map of the Mass Transit Railway; the Modified Initial System (Chater to Kwun Tong line) is marked in bold and dated 1980; the full line was opened in February 1980, while the extension to Tsuen Wan is marked in outlined and indicated to be opening in 1982. The Connaught Centre (now Jardine House) is prominently marked - its was the tallest building in Asia at the time of its completion in 1973, and the tallest building in Hong Kong until usurped by the Hopewell Centre (completed 1980). We infer that the map was published shortly before the first MTR line opened, likely in 1979. The map appears to have been published within a German language travel guide, however almost all the places names and map titles are in English. The legend and text outside the border of the map on the verso is in German.
