'Ordnance Survey of Ireland. Rivers, Lakes and Fishery Districts—Railways shown in black—Irish-speaking districts are coloured yellow'
Official Ordnance Survey of Ireland thematic map showing the island’s rivers, lakes and fishery districts, with railways picked out in black and Irish-speaking districts washed in yellow. Prepared in 1924 and revised in 1929, it is a useful visual document of the Irish Free State period, combining administrative fishery boundaries with transport routes, river systems, coastal waters and linguistic geography. The fishery districts, numbered and outlined in red, give the sheet a distinctive administrative purpose beyond the usual general map of Ireland. The yellow Gaeltacht areas add an additional cultural layer. An appealing inter-war Irish thematic map, especially relevant to collectors of angling, fisheries, Irish Free State and linguistic cartography.
