'Jerez—Map of the ‘Jerez–Xérès–Sherry’ Producing District—Plano de la Zona de producción del ‘Jerez–Xérès–Sherry’—Carte de la Zone de production du vin ‘Jerez–Xérès–Sherry’'
A handsome mid-century wine map of the Jerez–Xérès–Sherry appellation, originally issued to accompany Banco de Vizcaya’s promotional volume Jerez de la Frontera. The sheet extends from the Guadalquivir estuary and Sanlúcar de Barrameda south to Cádiz, San Fernando and Chiclana, centred on Jerez and El Puerto de Santa María. Patterned yellow and brown tints distinguish the chalky albariza soils from the heavier barros and sandy arenas; trilingual keys name the principal production districts and their characteristic wines, including finos, olorosos, amontillados, manzanillas and moscatels. Roads, rivers, vineyard pagos, wine-glass devices, a bold compass rose and a Spain locator inset complete the design. Issued by the Consejo Regulador and printed by Artes Gráficas Grijelmo, the map appears here in its second edition, printed in February 1958: an attractive cartographic record of the historic Sherry Triangle and its regulated viticultural landscape.
