A substantial, beautifully detailed map of London's social and industrial landscape at the turn of the century, highlighting its factories and works by industry, which include tobacco, clothing (tailoring, shirts, collars, etc.), wood (furniture, cabinet making, sawmills, etc.), timber yards, distilleries, leather production (tanneries, curreries, boots & shoes), printing works, rope works, iron foundries, ironworks, brass foundries, mineral water factories, wharves, warehouses, goods depots, fire stations, chemical works, breweries, laundries, and bookbinding. Smaller factories are marked with a black dot, while larger establishments employing over 100 workers in 1898 are distinguished by a red circle. Factories with over 200 workers are marked with a green dot, those with over 500 with a blue dot, and those with over 1,000 with a black square. The figures in red indicate the population and the number of residents engaged in each district's principal trades.
