'China_S.E. Coast—Macau to Pedro Blanco including Hong Kong'
Large British Admiralty Chart 3026 of the South China coast, spanning Portuguese-administered Macau, the Pearl River approaches and British Hong Kong eastwards to Pedro Blanco. First published in 1899 under Rear Admiral Sir W. J. L. Wharton, Hydrographer, it was reissued in 1912; this copy incorporates major corrections to 1966 and smaller updates to 1974, preserving nearly three-quarters of a century of hydrographic knowledge. Dense soundings, shoals, channels, anchorages, lights and compass roses evoke the demands of navigating a great Asian maritime gateway, while finely drawn coastal relief gives the chart visual presence. Flattened and mounted on board, its reverse retains an incomplete label from Man Fong Picture Frame Maker, Wellington Street, Hong Kong, suggesting that it was framed locally soon after its final correction.
