[Manley Colchester Kemp. Wicket-keeper. Kent cricketer] Captain of the Harrow and Oxford Elevens in turn, MANLEY KEMP has had the best training for the highest position in County cricket. One of three brothers, each of them in his time Harrow Captain, "The Bishop," as he is known familiarly to his friends on the cricket field, made his first appearance at Lord's, in the Eton and Harrow Match of 1875. A Plucky bat even then, he was besides a wicket keeper very much above the average of Public Schools. Since 1880, he has kept wicket for Kent, as well as occasionally for the Gentlemen, with marked success. with great nerve, he has generally been reliable for runs at a crisis when others have failed. As a wicket keeper, he has had few superiors, standing up fearlessly to every kind of bowling. He was one of the pair to represent Harrow and Oxford at Racquet, and also did good service for the University as a half-back at the Association Game
