'From Oxford Street, by Uxbridge Road to High Street, Notting Hill'
A perspective map view from Marble Arch along Uxbridge Road (now Bayswater Road) to "High Street", Notting Hill, (now Notting Hill Gate), and the adjacent parts of Bayswater, Notting Hill, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. At the lower edge stand Marble Arch, the site of old Tyburn and the junction with Edgware Road, with Hyde Park and the Serpentine stretching to the west, including features such as the Ring, the Drive, and Victoria Gate. Uxbridge Road runs diagonally through the composition, flanked by Stanhope Place, Hyde Park Square and Connaught Street, Gloucester Terrace, Grand Junction Road (now Sussex Gardens) and Lancaster Gate. To the north lie Paddington Station and the Great Western Railway terminus, with Talbot Road, Pembridge Square, Kensington Park Road, and Notting Hill Gate marking the upper extent of the view. Along the way, Christ Church, Lancaster Gate, St Matthew’s Church, and a synagogue are all identified, reflecting the area’s diverse institutions. The map combines architectural detail with an orderly street pattern, highlighting the mix of residential squares, grand terraces and transport connections that defined Bayswater, Paddington and Notting Hill in the late Victorian and Edwardian period.
