Hitlerowskie obozy pracy na ziemiach polskich w latach 1939–1945 [Nazi labour camps on Polish lands in the years 1939–1945]
This detailed sheet, published in 1979 by the Polish Commission for the Investigation of Nazi Crimes, maps the widespread system of forced labour camps, sub-camps, and penal labour installations. The legend differentiates between principal labour camps, satellite camps, and punitive labour facilities. These camps primarily received civilians — including Jews, Poles, and other occupied populations — as well as some prisoners transferred from prisons or concentration camps, and were established to exploit labour for industrial, mining, agricultural, and infrastructure projects. Unlike extermination centres, they were not designed principally for immediate killing, but conditions of overwork, malnutrition, disease, and brutality often resulted in high mortality. Particularly dense concentrations appear in industrial regions such as Upper Silesia and around major urban centres, demonstrating the systematic integration of coerced labour into the wartime economy.
