'Map of part of the Western Coast of Africa extending from the Isles de Loss to Sherboro Island, particularly exhibiting the discoveries lately made to the N.E. of Sierra Leone'
A scarce separately issued map of part of West Africa by James Wyld, showing Sierra Leone and part of Guinea. The map is one of the most detailed 19th Century maps of this part of Africa. The coastline shown is that of Sierra Leone north to the site of present-day Conakry, in Guinea. The map shows towns, rivers and roads in the region, as well as the routes of the explorers including Wall & Winterbottom (1794), Surgeon O'Beirne (1821), Major Laing (1822) and Jack Le Bore (1822). At the bottom is a table of the "Returns of the Trade Population &c. of Sierra Leone 1817 to 1825" detailing population of, and British trade with, Sierra Leone.
