'Parkway Design for Outer Ring Road'
A trunk road reimagined as a landscaped parkway: this long folding design traces Plymouth's proposed outer ring road from the Tamar at St Budeaux to Marsh Mills, with a profile of the route along the top, a plan through farmland and woods below, and charming pen-and-ink vignettes, including the view looking west from Burraton and the road intersections below Manadon Hill. Drawn for A Plan for Plymouth, the scheme anticipated the northern bypass that eventually opened as the A38 Plymouth Parkway in 1985, by which time the planners' green parkway had become a busy dual carriageway. Nearly a metre long, it is an unusual and handsome piece of road-planning graphics.
