'Regent Street, from Waterloo Place to Portland Place'
A perspective map view of Regent Street from Waterloo Place to Portland Place and adjacent parts of St. James's, Marylebone, Mayfair & Soho, presenting one of London’s grandest thoroughfares in the late Victorian era. At the lower edge are Waterloo Place, the Duke of York’s Column, and the surrounding clubs including the Athenaeum, the United Service Club and the Pall Mall Club. Moving northwards, Regent Street passes Piccadilly Circus with its cluster of theatres and shops, the Criterion, London Pavilion, and the Haymarket visible to the east, while to the west lie St James’s Square, the Museum of Geology, and St Philip’s Chapel. The sweep of Regent Street continues past Conduit Street, Maddox Street and Hanover Street, leading towards Oxford Circus, with Cavendish Square and Langham Place, including All Souls’ Church, to the north. The view terminates at Portland Place. Notable institutions shown along the route include the New Picture Gallery, the Bank of England West Branch, and the Royal Polytechnic.
