This vivid 1921 language map of Central Europe is the one LIFE reproduced in April 1938 as "The Key Nazi Map of a Greater Germany", reporting that Nazis were displaying it widely. It maps a defeated people's grievance. Its compiler, the statistician Wilhelm Winkler, had advised Austria's delegation at the Saint-Germain peace talks. He floods every German-speaking district, from Alsace and South Tyrol to the Baltic, in unbroken red, then slices it with white bands along the new treaty borders. Under the headline "German right of self-determination!", it throws the Allies' own principle back at the peacemakers, protesting that Versailles and Saint-Germain had divided the German people among twelve states and denied more than fifteen million of them union with the motherland. Within two decades Hitler turned these grievances into annexation and war: Austria in March 1938, the Sudetenland after Munich, then Danzig and the Polish Corridor, the ostensible casus belli for invading Poland, and so the Second World War. This large folding sheet, about 84 × 114 cm, is the second edition, in its worn original wrapper.

Packing
Items smaller than A4 size are usually packed in a stiffened, board-backed envelope. Larger items are rolled and packed in postal tubes. Large items which are too stiff to be rolled in wide-diameter tubes are mailed in all-board envelopes. In the unlikely event of damage in transit, please send the affected item or items back to us and we will provide a replacement or refund.

Returns
We accept returns for any reason if sent back to us within 14 days of receipt of your order. If any of your items are not as described, we will provide a full refund including reasonable return postage costs upon safe return to us.
