'The Pictorial Map of Soccer'
A statistically rich heritage map of English football, this vibrant piece outlines the locations, crests, and playing colours of the major clubs across the country. Surrounding the map are illustrated profiles of 24 of the era’s most iconic players, including several members of England’s 1966 World Cup-winning team. A fascinating table details each club’s founding date, traditional colours, and nicknames—several of which have since changed. Notably, Brighton were once known as the "Shrimps" (now the "Seagulls"), Crystal Palace as the "Glaziers" (now the "Eagles"), and Watford as the "Brewers" (now the "Hornets"). The map also includes a comprehensive chronology of milestones in the history and development of the game, a complete list of Football League champions, annual records of First Division relegations, and a table of all clubs promoted to or relegated from the Football League. A dedicated section highlights every match in which a team scored at least eight goals. The "1971 Stop Press Headlines" celebrate Arsenal’s League and FA Cup double, Chelsea’s Cup Winners' Cup triumph, and Leeds United’s victory in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. A vignette illustration of the original Wembley Stadium adds to the nostalgic appeal. Featured players include: Gordon Banks, Martin Chivers, Derek Dougan, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moncur, Frank McLintock, Bobby Moore, Colin Stein, Geoff Hurst, Francis Lee, John Toshack, Peter Osgood, Steve Heighway, Ron Davies, Alan Ball, George Best, Johnny Giles, Geoff Astle, Jimmy Johnstone, Rodney Marsh, Charlie Cooke, Billy Bremner, Martin Peters, and Terry Cooper.
