[Thomas Arthur Wardall. Batsman. Yorkshire cricketer] Yorkshire, three years ago, had few better all-round Cricketers than WARDALL. A two year's engagement at the Oval had shown him to be a useful hardworking player, but little more. The better class of cricket he got subsequently with the Yorkshire Eleven brightened his play considerably, and in 1892 he was of distinct use to the County, not only as a batsman but on occasions as a bowler. Several times he scored very heavily, and that year against Gloucestershire he played three innings of over a hundred for the County. He was, indeed, not only at the head of the batting averages that season, but also took twenty wickets at by no means a heavy cost. During the last two years he has dropped out of the Yorkshire Eleven. A very watchful bat, he rarely took a liberty with any bowling, and consequently his wicket was never an easy one to get. If not a particularly smart field, he was very often of use in the field with his slow bowling on which there was considerable work
