Underground Map of London. Map of the Electric Railways of London - What to See and How to See it [Print code 209-500M-18-6-19]
This map features the first public use of Edward Johnston's iconic roundel design on its cover—a circle bisected with the "UndergrounD" bar that has become a defining element of the London Underground's visual identity. It is also the first paper Underground map issued to passengers following the First World War. The map displays all Underground Group railways and the Metropolitan Railway, using a limited color palette of red, blue, brown, black, and turquoise—likely due to wartime printing restrictions. Geographical details, such as roads, parks, and exhibition grounds, are shown in light black lines, with interchanges marked by circles. Key updates include Strand renamed as Aldwych and Great Central as Marylebone. The reverse side provides practical information, including mainline connections, places of interest, a theatre guide - and that famous roundel.
