'A Chart of the World on Mercator's Projection shewing the principal Ocean Steam Routes, the Submarine Telegraphs, &c.'
A large and attractive Edward Stanford world map, published in the 1901 folio edition of Stanford’s London Atlas. Drawn on Mercator’s projection, it is centred on the Pacific and shows political boundaries, colonial possessions, principal ocean steam routes and the network of submarine telegraph cables linking the continents at the height of the British Empire. Insets depict the northern and southern polar regions, while detailed place names and route markings cover remote islands and ocean passages. Originally issued on two separate, unjoined sheets, the map measures approximately 67 x 108 cm when assembled. The sheets survive in exceptionally clean condition, with fresh original colour and only minor signs of age. They may be supplied unjoined or carefully joined before dispatch, according to the purchaser’s preference.
