Bray is the Wicklow seaside town beneath Bray Head, where the headland rises beyond the promenade on the southern approaches to Dublin Bay. Walpoole's prospects of 1794 show the town, the headland and the bay, and the Black Rocks on the shore below. Taylor and Skinner's road survey of 1778 follows the route from Dublin through Donnybrook, Blackrock and Bray towards Wicklow and Wexford. The railway arrived in 1854 and turned Bray into a major resort, so the later views of 1895 and 1905 look along the promenade and esplanade, and Francis Sylvester Walker painted Bray Head in colour in 1905.
