Corpus Christi College was founded by Richard Fox in 1517 on ground just inside Oxford's old city wall, south of Merton Street and beside Christ Church Meadow, and its compact courts invite closely framed views. Ackermann's Oxford of 1814 shows the college beside Christ Church Cathedral, and John Le Keux engraved the college and its quadrangle in 1837. Prints of 1903 look across to Merton Tower and the meadows, and a plate of 1874 shows a farm building on the college's estate at Pertenhall in Bedfordshire.
