Robert Morden’s small engraved maps offer a window onto the world known to English readers at the close of the seventeenth century. Originally published in Geography Rectified, first issued in London in 1680, they accompanied accounts of countries, peoples and customs, with practical information on trade, currencies, weights and measures. This selection dates from the enlarged fourth edition of 1700 and includes Barbados, Brazil, the Canary Islands and Madeira, Armenia and Georgia, and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) with the Maldives. Historical place names and compact geographical detail give these original antique maps both documentary interest and decorative appeal. The collection also includes the edition’s distinctive title page, printed in red and black.
