Seating plans from the 1930s show how audiences filled the Globe Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, the West End house later renamed the Gielgud. Vintage plans of 1936 and 1937 come from Cecil Roy's Book of Plans of all London Theatres and Ashton & Mitchell's Royal Agency Theatre Plans, the later setting out the orchestra stalls, dress circle and upper circle. A 1959 poster for Eighty in the Shade, starring Sybil Thorndike and Robert Flemyng, carries the theatre into the post-war years.
