Coastal forts, trading settlements and the long Atlantic shoreline fill these maps of Guinea, which cover the historical Guinea coast far beyond the modern republic. Early regional maps by Bertius, De l'Isle, d'Anville and Zatta accompany Bellin's coastal surveys and later sheets of French, Portuguese and Spanish territories, following the coast from Senegambia and the Bijagós Islands to the Gold Coast and the Gulf of Guinea. Inland maps trace the Niger headwaters, the Fouta Djallon and the rivers, and there are harbour plans and maps of the later African states. The prints show Bissau, Elmina, Cape Coast and Fernando Po, with boats, dress, local industries, cultivation and ceremony.
