Early regional maps by Bertius, De l’Isle, d’Anville and Zatta accompany coastal surveys by Bellin and later atlas sheets showing changing colonial divisions. The collection follows Atlantic shorelines from Senegambia and the Bijagós Islands towards the Gold Coast and the Gulf of Guinea, with separate material on French, Portuguese and Spanish territories. Antique prints of Guinea record coastal forts, trading settlements, boats, dress and local industries, including views around Bissau, Elmina, Cape Coast and Fernando Po. Inland mapping follows the Niger headwaters, Fouta Djallon and river systems towards the coast. Harbour plans, accounts of exploration and illustrated scenes of cultivation and ceremony reveal how European geographical publications represented this extensive region, alongside maps of the later African states.
