Newcastle Emlyn is shown on Robert Dawson’s 1832 Reform Act plan with Adpar and on Daniel Paterson’s 1785 and 1803 road strips to Cardigan. Prints by Henry Gastineau and from nineteenth-century illustrated works depict the town, castle ruins and the Teifi valley, documenting both banks of the river and the historic form “Newcastle in Emlyn”.
