S.D.U.K. City Plans

Our stock of the highly prized city plans published by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK) primarily between 1830 and 1852. These finely engraved maps are celebrated for their elegant design, consistent presentation, and exceptional detail. Typically adorned with original outline hand colouring, many also include inset architectural views and thorough definition of streets and notable landmarks. The geographic scope is broad and international, encompassing cities across Britain, Europe, North America, and Asia. Highlights include major capitals and commercial centres such as London, Liverpool, Dublin, Edinburgh, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam, Vienna, and Warsaw, as well as New York, Boston, and Calcutta. The series also features maps of the surrounding environs of selected cities. Today, SDUK plans are prized both for their historical importance and their refined visual appeal—offering a vivid and authoritative snapshot of the world's great 19th-century cities at the dawn of an era of rapid global urbanisation.
