Schley, Jakob van der
Jakob van der Schley (1715–1779) was a Dutch engraver best known for his finely executed plates for the Dutch edition of Histoire Générale des Voyages, a monumental multi-volume compilation of global travel and exploration accounts, authored by Abbé Prévost. Van der Schley engraved numerous detailed maps and views for the work, after the originals created by Jacques-Nicolas Bellin for the French edition. His engravings are admired for their clarity, precision, and decorative style, making them a key visual component of one of the Enlightenment’s most ambitious geographical publications.
