Sederholm, Jakob Johannes

Jakob Johannes Sederholm (1863-1934) was a Finnish geologist renowned for his pioneering work in geological mapping, particularly of the Finnish Shield. He produced some of the first detailed geological maps of Finland, significantly advancing the understanding of the region's Precambrian rocks. Sederholm's meticulous mapping of granulites and granites set new standards in geological cartography, influencing how geological surveys were conducted worldwide. He was Director of the Geological Survey of Finland from 1893 until his death. The mineral sederholmite is named in his honour.
