Stoke d'Abernon is a Surrey village tucked between Cobham and Esher, near the Mole valley, and its maps show suburban Surrey gradually growing up around the older settlement. Cary's sheets of 1786 and 1811 place it beside Bookham, Leatherhead and Walton-on-Thames. Maps of 1933 and 1937 show the approaches through Oxshott, Fairmile, Claygate and Whiteley Village, and a sheet of 1964 records the roads around the village before the M25 arrived. A print of 1914 shows the house at Slyfield Place.
