West Twyford was a small Middlesex parish on the western approaches to London, linked historically with Willesden and later part of Greenford Urban District, now in Ealing, and Twyford Abbey still gives the district its name. A twentieth-century edition of Rocque's survey of 1746 places it in the country around Acton, Ealing and Greenford, and Cary's maps of 1786 and 1811 extend towards Brentford, Chiswick and Kew. A Victorian print of 1888 shows the abbey itself, and a street plan of 2000 covers Twyford Avenue and the playing fields near West Acton.
