West Point Atlas of American Wars
The West Point Atlas of American Wars is a two-volume set of military atlases prepared by the Department of Military Art and Engineering at the United States Military Academy, West Point. First published in the 1950s, it was designed as a teaching tool for cadets and offers a clear, analytical cartographic record of major American military conflicts from the Revolutionary War through the Korean War. Volume I covers wars from the Revolutionary War to the Spanish-American War, while Volume II continues from World War I through Korea. Each map is rendered in a simple, diagrammatic style—often using minimal topographic detail—focusing on troop movements, battle lines, and strategic developments. The maps are accompanied by explanatory text, providing context and military analysis. The atlas is especially valued for its clarity of presentation, and it remains a widely respected reference for historians, educators, and military professionals studying American military history and battlefield strategy.
