Yaxley is a Huntingdonshire village, now in Cambridgeshire, on the edge of the Fens and the old roads north to Peterborough, and a print of 1851 shows the view from it across Whittlesey Mere, the fenland lake that is now gone. Senex in 1719 and Kitchin in 1767 map the roads from Yaxley through Peterborough to Lincoln, one coming up from St Neots and the other turning aside through Spalding and Boston, while Paterson's strip maps of 1785 and 1803 run from the village through Peterborough to Folkingham. John Cary's county map of 1793 sets it among the fens and moors of Huntingdonshire, and an Ordnance Survey sheet of 1958 shows it in close detail.
