Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 216 [Mayfair: New Bond Street, Savile Row, Cork Street and Conduit Street]
Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 216, covers Mayfair's New Bond Street and Savile Row (W1). The Westbury Hotel opened in March 1955 and closed in 2020–21, and it is being rebuilt as The St Regis London, which is planned for late 2026. The Time & Life Building of 1953 still keeps Henry Moore's Portland stone screen, while Asprey, a Bond Street name since 1847, moved to Bruton Street in 2021. In the sheet's day, tailors' workrooms and textile premises stood alongside the shops and offices around Savile Row and Cork Street, and bespoke clothes are still made here. This specialist tradition survives in the modern West End, and since 2016 it has done so under Westminster planning policy. The sheet also names the Police Station at the Boyle Street corner and the Royal Bank of Scotland. Goad's plans were produced to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding; the latest dated correction is October 1970. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in October 1954, with a 1954 copyright date, and the key plan acquired with this group records corrections to October 1970. Other streets on the sheet include Conduit Street, Clifford Street, Old Burlington Street, Grafton Street, Albemarle Street and Mill Street.
