Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 64 [Moorgate, London Wall, Lothbury and Copthall Avenue]
Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 64, covers Moorgate, Lothbury and Copthall Avenue (EC2), catching the National Provincial Bank and the Westminster Bank still named separately, months before they merged as National Westminster Bank on 1 January 1970. The Provincial Bank of Ireland, which had joined Allied Irish Banks in 1966, also appears on the sheet, as do the Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Ceylon. The Institute of Chartered Accountants' extension at Great Swan Alley is marked under construction in August 1969. This is the sheet's latest dated correction, and one of the dated changes among the enlarged office blocks. The extension, William Whitfield's addition to Belcher's hall of 1890–93, opened in May 1970, and the Institute remains there. Wren's St Margaret Lothbury of 1686–90 is still a parish church. These working plans were drawn to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The sheet was reissued in August 1937, with a 1949 copyright date, and key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include London Wall, Throgmorton Street, Throgmorton Avenue and Telegraph Street.
