'Tombleson's Panoramic Map of the Thames and Medway'
Tombleson’s Panoramic Map of the Thames & Medway, published by G. W. Bacon, London, c.1919. A large folding leporello panoramic map, original colour and wrappers. A handsome early-20th-century panoramic mapping of the River Thames and Medway, derived from William Tombleson’s celebrated Victorian river views and updated by G. W. Bacon. Extending from the Thames Estuary through London and upriver to the source near Cirencester, it combines attractive shaded topography with clear depiction of locks, towns, transport links, and the pleasure-boating reaches of the river. A popular guide for leisure travel and riparian excursions in the years following the First World War, and today prized for its decorative appeal and elegant cartographic style. A clean and well-preserved example of a sought-after Thames classic.
