Peter “Pete” Fenlon (born 1955) is an American game designer, developer, and graphics artist whose creative work spans fantasy, science fiction and historical storytelling. He is best known in the map world for his striking large-format cartography of Tolkien’s Middle-earth (Endor), which expands the geography beyond the familiar regions of The Lord of the Rings into a fully realised continental landscape. His detailed, story-driven mapping for Iron Crown Enterprises’ Middle-earth Role Playing (MERP) line in the early 1980s has become highly collectible, especially the 1982 poster “An Artist’s Interpretation of Middle-earth.” Outside cartography, Fenlon is also widely recognised for his key role in bringing the bestselling board game Catan to international prominence.
