Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 18 [London Wall, Aldersgate Street, Wood Street and Gresham Street — later copy]
Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 18, covers London Wall and Monkwell Square (EC2) in the November 1960 reissue, which superseded the "obsolete" edition of November 1932. The sheet shows office blocks such as Lee House replacing dense warehouse plots, Monkwell Square sitting over a basement car park beside the rebuilt Barber Surgeons' Hall, and a site awaiting the future Plaisterers' Hall. Barber Surgeons' Hall opened in 1969 and Plaisterers' Hall in 1972, while Lee House gave way to Alban Gate in 1990–92. The sheet also names St Anne and St Agnes church, Haberdashers' Hall, the Metropolitan and Monarch Telephone Exchange, Garrard House and the remains of the old London wall. The plan was made for fire-risk assessment and updated with pasted slips recording changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and new building. Its latest dated correction is a proposal note of December 1967 on the London Wall frontage, between the Barber Surgeons' Hall plot and Lee House. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1960, with a 1960 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Aldersgate Street, St Martin's-le-Grand, Gresham Street, Wood Street, Noble Street, Oat Lane and Staining Lane.
