Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 19 [Guildhall, Aldermanbury, London Wall and Gresham Street]
Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 19, covers Guildhall and Aldermanbury (EC2). It records the Guildhall extension, the West Wing of 1970–75, at foundation stage in November 1970, beside new civic offices, library and museum arrangements and proposed raised pedestrian circulation. The Guildhall Museum merged into the Museum of London in 1976. St Alphage House and the National Cash Register offices belonged to the first generation of post-war London Wall development. St Alphage House was cleared from 2013, and its site is now London Wall Place, where offices and gardens are arranged around surviving fragments of the Roman wall and medieval church. The sheet also names St Lawrence Jewry, Brewers' Hall, the New Art Gallery, the City of London Police headquarters, Royex House, Gillett House and Barrington House. The plan was compiled for fire-risk assessment and kept current with pasted overlays recording changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and new building, and its latest dated correction is from November 1970. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1961, with a 1961 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Wood Street, Aldermanbury Square, Addle Street, Love Lane, Basinghall Street, Basinghall Avenue, Gresham Street, King Street and St Alphage Garden.
