Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 253 [Borough High Street, Newington Causeway, Trinity Church Square and Rockingham Street — uncoloured outline]
Goad's uncoloured outline fire insurance plan of London, sheet 253, covers Borough from Borough High Street and Newington Causeway to Rockingham Street and Trinity Church Square (SE1), whose listed terraces remain Trinity House property. Holy Trinity Church, Francis Bedford's building of 1823–24, was disused when the London Symphony and London Philharmonic Orchestras chose it in 1970. It reopened in 1975 as the Henry Wood Hall for orchestral rehearsal and recording, and so it joins the square's religious past to a musical present. Reissued in December 1943, this outline records streets, footprints and plot divisions with less occupancy and risk detail than the coloured plans. It preserves the small plots around Rockingham Street and Falmouth Road, which later coloured revisions show replaced by larger housing blocks, with tenements under construction in March 1971. These working plans were drawn to price property and fire risk, and they took pasted overlays recording new uses, layouts, demolition and rebuilding. A key plan for this area acquired with the group records corrections to March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Great Suffolk Street, Trinity Street, Stones End Street, Borough Road, Harper Road, Trio Place, Swan Street, Bath Terrace, Meadow Row and Arch Street.
