Baobabs, palms and cedars, tropical forests and the cinchona harvest join the flower plates in these prints from Botanique Organographie et Taxonomie, Emmanuel Le Maout's botanical work published by Curmer in Paris and catalogued here to 1852. As the title promises, the book dealt with the structure and classification of plants, and its plates group named species and identify families as well as showing single blossoms. Birches and bananas widen the range further, and landscapes of alpine vegetation set plants in their surroundings. The captions are in French and Latin, in the terminology of nineteenth-century botany.
