Georgia’s Atlantic coast, Savannah’s maritime setting and inland Thomasville are all recorded here in coastal charts, state atlas maps and town views. The maps range from Johnson’s nineteenth-century state and railway maps to Ruth Taylor White’s pictorial map, which characterises the state through images and local associations, while the US Coast Survey traces the shoreline and its island approaches. Among the prints are Savannah’s Bonaventure Cemetery, historical settlement scenes and photographs of Thomasville’s courthouse and housing, including the homes of African American residents, a valuable record of the state’s social history.
