Winkles, Benjamin & Henry
Henry Winkles (1801–1860) and his brother Benjamin Winkles were English architectural illustrators, engravers, and printers. Henry, in partnership with Karl Ludwig Frommel, co-founded the first studio for steel engraving in Germany. In 1836, Henry and Benjamin collaborated on the publication Winkles’s Architectural and Picturesque Illustrations of the Cathedral Churches of England and Wales. These volumes, richly illustrated and widely circulated, played a significant role in inspiring the Gothic Revival movement in 19th-century Britain.
