'Map showing the number and location of Liquor Saloons, etc., in Bangor, Maine'
Published in "State Prohibition and Local Option" (1901) by Temperance campaigners Joseph Rowntree and Arthur Sherwell, this map illustrates the density of liquor saloons in Bangor, Maine, as part of an examination of American Prohibition and Local Option case studies to support the authors’ advocacy for local option licensing laws in the UK—arguing that communities, not the state, should have the power to control alcohol sales. The map served as visual evidence in their campaign for temperance reform through local democratic means rather than national prohibition.
