'St. James’s Street and Old and New Bond Streets'
A perspective map view of St James’s Street together with Old and New Bond Streets, extending north from Pall Mall to Oxford Street, with adjacent parts of fashionable Mayfair & St. James's. At the southern end stands St James’s Palace on Pall Mall, with Cleveland Row and St James’s Place nearby, flanked by the Conservative Club and Thatched House Club. St James’s Street runs north past gentlemen’s clubs including Boodle’s, Brooks’s, the Army and Navy Club and the Junior Carlton, with Green Park to the west, and Christie’s auction rooms on King Street to the east. In the middle distance, Old and New Bond Streets are depicted with Burlington House, the Royal Academy of Arts and the Egyptian Hall, emphasising the district’s commercial and artistic associations. Further north appear Conduit Street, Maddox Street and Hanover Square, with Claridge’s Hotel, Grosvenor Square and Berkeley Square shown to the west. The view terminates at Oxford Street and Oxford Circus. The map balances architectural detail with a clear street pattern, highlighting the clubs, auction houses, galleries and luxury shops that made this district synonymous with political, artistic and social life in late Victorian London.
