斷末魔の喘ぎ! [Gasping in its Death throes!]; illustration to シンガポール攻略とその後 [The capture of Singapore and what follows]
“Death throes!” crows the headline over this small Japanese pictorial map, published on 1 February 1942 as Singapore braced for the final assault. An aircraft looms over the island, whose airfields, oil tanks, wireless stations, reservoirs and naval base are laid out as targets, with the city and Fort Canning on the southern harbour and Blakang Mati, today’s Sentosa, offshore. Below, Shūkan Asahi opens a round-table discussion titled “The capture of Singapore and what follows”, confidently planning for victory two weeks before the British surrender. We have found no other example offered by a Western dealer.
