'Edgware Road from Marble Arch to Westbourne Grove'
A perspective map view of Edgware Road from Marble Arch to the Harrow Road, depicting this important north-western approach to London. At the lower edge lie Marble Arch, the site of old Tyburn, Hyde Park and Cumberland Gate, with Connaught Place and Connaught Square adjoining. Edgware Road runs northwards past Seymour Street, Upper Berkeley Street and George Street, flanked by residential terraces and squares. Midway along the route appear Praed Street, Star Street, St Mary’s Hospital and the Great Western Railway’s Paddington Terminus, with the Grand Junction (now Grand Union) Canal's Paddington Basin. To the east are Marylebone Road, Chapel Street and Church Street Market, while to the west stand Connaught Terrace and Grand Junction Road (now Sussex Gardens). The view culminates with Paddington Green, St Mary’s Church and the approach to Westbourne Grove, while the Western Railway lines stretch further out towards Bishop’s Road and Westbourne Park. The map balances architectural detail with a clear street plan, highlighting Edgware Road’s role as both a residential district of squares and terraces and as a key transport artery linking the West End to Paddington Station and the suburbs in the late Victorian period.
