[Frederick William, Old Lillywhite. "The Nonpareil bowler". Cricket cricketer] Or as he was generally known, WILLIAM LILLYWHITE fairly earned the title of "The Nonpareil Bowler," by his long and remarkable record. Though he did not appear at Lord's till he was Thirty-five., for over twenty years he had no superiors among the bowlers of his time. Even in 1853, when he had his benefit at Lord's, though then sixty-one, he was bowling quite as well as ever. Round-arm, rather slow, he kept a wonderful length, and it is recorded to his credit that throughout his long career he did not bowl more than six wides. Though not regarded as much of a bat, he twice (in 1839 and 1845), carried his bat through the innings. His popularity at Lord's where he was engaged form 1844 to the time of his death in 1854, was shown by the monument erected in Highgate Cemetery to his memory
