Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 23 [Moorgate Station, London Wall, Moor Lane and Fore Street]
Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 23, covers Moorgate Station, Moor Lane and London Wall (EC2), catching the post-war City in mid-construction. In the Moorgate Station redevelopment, offices and railway were being remade together, and the sheet shows new buildings over the railway platforms under construction in November 1970, which is its latest dated correction. Britannic House on Ropemaker Street, BP's 35-storey tower of 1967, became CityPoint in 2000 after BP left in 1991. St Alphage House, a London Wall slab of 1962, was demolished from 2013 to make way for London Wall Place. Milton Court, shown here as the City public services building and fire station, came down in 2008 for the Guildhall School's performance and teaching building of 2013, with music and drama replacing municipal services. The sheet also names the National Telephone Exchange and the Stock Exchange offices. Goad's plans were made to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. This sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1939, with a 1939 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with it carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Moorfields, Silk Street, Milton Street, Fore Street and Fore Street Avenue.
