'Idaho'
Charles C. Royce’s historical map of Idaho records Native American land cessions, reservations and boundary changes. Published by the U.S. Government in 1899 for the Smithsonian’s Bureau of American Ethnology, it documents both dispossession and retained lands from the government’s perspective. Each coloured, numbered area is keyed to Royce’s original schedule. The map is supplied with a PDF of the relevant extracts, which identify and date the treaty or other government action behind each area, name the tribes involved and explain the resulting changes to their land. The numbers on this sheet correspond to the following tribes and schedule dates: 366—Nez Percé (Nimiipuu) (1855); 373—Flathead (Bitterroot Salish), Kootenay (Kootenai/Ktunaxa), Upper Pend d'Orelles (Upper Pend d’Oreille) (1855); 441—Nez Percé (1855, 1863); 442—Nez Percé (1855, 1863, 1894); 444—Shoshoni (Shoshone) (Western bands) (1863), defined territorial claim; 520—Bannock, Shoshoni (1868); 524—Bannock, Shoshoni (1867, 1868, 1869, 1888, 1889), Fort Hall reservation and subsequent changes; 532—Methow, Okanagan, Kootenay, Pend d’Oreille, Colville, North Spokane, San Poil and other bands (1871), memorandum of territorial claims; 552—Coeur d’Alène, Southern Spokane and other bands (1867, 1873, 1892, 1894); 553—Coeur d’Alène, Southern Spokane and other bands (1873, 1891); 575—Bannock, Sheepeater, Shoshoni (1875); 604—Shoshoni (Western bands) (1877); 660—Paiute (Paddy Cap's band) (1886).
